It 'was hard but eventually I managed to wake up! Little time for preparations and at 9:30 we are already on their way to Zagreb. We cross the inner part of Istria to Fiume, where we finally enter the highway to the capital. In total just over 250 km, and a thing is impossible not to Note: In Croatia there is nothing. In three hours to travel a few countries meet, a few houses and no industry, even in the outskirts of Zagreb, there are no smokestacks, plant productivity. Entering the city is hard to miss some dorm apartment blocks that seem recent, but perhaps to injury, reminiscent of the neighborhoods built in the communist era for their square shape and impressive. The indications for the center does not admit mistakes, in minutes, without the help of the navigator who wanted to take us to the airport at all costs, we find a convenient covered parking close to the upper part of the city. We obtain a map and a little guide from the tourist office. Are offered two routes to do on foot and obviously we do them both for a total of about five hours. We start from the upper town, the oldest part, and we look first to the tower from which every Lotrscak noon firing blanks from a gun, we continue towards the church of San Marco, particularly its roof with two coats of arms depicted a giant mosaic (the United Trino of Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia and the City of Zagreb). A few steps and we have the stone door, a charming and intimate - in spite of the continuous passage of tourists and residents - a votive place in the city, really charming. Through a short street called "Bridge of Blood", we arrive at Josip Jelacic square Bano, the first stage of the lower city, the buildings are a bridge, have the air of great European capital, but with a nod to the near east. The style of many buildings directly inspired by the Viennese Secession, other buildings have a kind of baroque and others, in particular the cathedral, are clearly the result of multiple layering of architectural styles from Deruta. A particularly curious about "The guardians frozen, figures of animals, angels and demons carved in the columns of the buildings, which are still petrified by day but at night they wake up to carry out their secret missions. At this point we deserve a quick lunch in the square where the market is held outdoors Dolac, the largest and most important city. Not tents by using the classic market but simple beach umbrellas red white stripes, a symbol of citizens are all equal and they are many. Here the food is still cheaper than the coast: for a strange Kebab, a vegetarian sandwich and two bottles of water we spend 40 Kuna, about 7 €. Just enough time to swallow and leave again to the cathedral as the Cathedral of Milan, but in small, front entrance, there is also a golden Madonna. Unfortunately here, as in all other buildings of interest, we can not go by Laika! We continue our journey along the "green horseshoe" of the city, shopping streets, historical buildings and monuments, including the Croatian National Theatre, the state archives and museums. We skirt the botanical garden, the Central Station and by a beautifull park. We return to the starting point, Jelacic Square where we stop and buy the typical cake Zagreb: two inches of whipped cream and enclosed in a thin layer of pastry and a chocolate. We also buy a parasol of red wood, which reproduces the sun symbol of the city and a reproduction in wood of red comforted, honey candy heart-shaped, traditional expression of love and affection. Not content, ask the clerk of the record store to buy some CDs, because we want to bring home a little 'of the music of this place and its people. We both very tired but happy to be from west to east across the country! One more thing: now it is certain that the weather flying wisdom! The landlord ultra seventy, just yesterday claimed that it never rains here because the clouds stop first. Morale, gave the forecast with rain water, while the old wise provided for themselves: today's deluge in the whole of Istria, Porec included!
